Vinicunca, also known as Rainbow Mountain or Cerro Colorado, is a mountain located in the Vilcanota mountain range of the Peruvian Andes, in the Cusco region. What makes Vinicunca such an impressive place is the variety of colors that can be observed on its slopes, ranging from red and orange to green and turquoise.
This mountain has become increasingly popular in recent years, attracting tourists from all over the world who want to experience its unique beauty and hike to its summit. The hike can be quite challenging due to the altitude and lack of oxygen in the air, but the view from the top is breathtaking and definitely worth the effort.
For this tour, we will pick you up from your hotel between 4:00am and 4:30am to head to Cusipata, which takes approximately 2 hours. Here we will have a local breakfast, and since it is a remote community, we will not have the same amenities as the city, but it is still part of the tourism experience.
After breakfast, we will drive for another hour to our checkpoint at Fulawasi, which is the starting point of the hike towards Vinicunca.
At the top, you will have enough time to take photos and enjoy the panoramic views while our guide provides you with information about the history and characteristics of the Mountain of 7 Colors. After the hike, we will return to Cusipata where we will enjoy a delicious Andean lunch before heading back to the city of Cusco. We will begin this exciting tour to the Rainbow Mountain from the comfort of your hotel in Cusco, where we will pick you up early between 4:00am and 4:30am. If you are staying in a remote area or an Airbnb, we will coordinate a nearby meeting point.
We will transfer you in our tourist transport to the town of Pitumarca, where we will make a brief stop to enjoy a delicious Andean breakfast and prepare ourselves for the hike that will take us to the Rainbow Mountain.
Continuing with our tour, we will arrive at the community of Hanchipata, where we will begin our hike to the majestic Vinicunca Mountain. The hike lasts approximately 3 hours, but don't worry, we will go at a leisurely pace and enjoy the beautiful scenery around us. We have the option to rent horses for the journey.
During the hike, we can appreciate the impressive landscapes of mountains with intense colors, surrounded by small icy streams that feed and give life to this valley. Our specialized guide will provide us with information about the flora and fauna that inhabit the area.
Finally, we will reach an altitude of 5200 meters above sea level, where we can appreciate the beautiful Rainbow Mountain in all its splendor. We will have enough time to take photos in this impressive landscape, which undoubtedly will be engraved in our memory.
After this unforgettable experience, we will start our return to the community of Hanchipata, where we will enjoy a delicious Andean lunch. Then, we will return to the city of Cusco and conclude our tour to the Rainbow Mountain.
